From a Complete Stranger to a Dear Friend: Slovenian familiarisation with Japan, its people and customs
Keywords:

The monograph provides the first comprehensive overview of how Slovenians became acquainted with Japan, its people, customs, and culture. In the 1980s, Zmago Šmitek began researching peoples living very far away from Slovenia, focusing primarily on learning about nations and cultures from various parts of the world. Meanwhile, the book at hand, titled Od popolne neznanke do prisrčne prijateljice (From a Complete Stranger to a Dear Friend), focuses on how our ancestors came to know one particular people, in this case the Japanese, through media contributions, travelogues, reports from visitors to faraway places, school textbooks, and cultural goods.
